The engine is a Meadows 4EL, built in 1941 by Henry Meadows Ltd of Wolverhampton. The engine was used in Guy trucks and a Guy Ant armoured vehicles as well as other applications. Despite being outside for 40+ years it wasn't seized. A couple of valves were stuck but otherwise it is in good condition with no measurable bore wear. Stripping revealed a broken valve guide, I manufactured one, and the sump was full of sludge and the water jacket solid with sediment. Anyway a good clean up and it's fine. We are going to fit a ring gear and starter motor as neither of us fancy a broken wrist as beset the fitter.
